It was Nike’s first original sneaker , and the rest is history. Last night, as part of a new initiative from Nike called “LeBron Watch,” which will see the King debuting new limited-edition versions of his new LeBron 15 sneakers on court, the Waffle Trainer made a return.
We deemed the LeBron 15 one of the four sneakers that put on Nike on track for a breakout 2018—not to mention one of our favorite basketball sneakers to buy right now—because it packs various new bits of Nike technology in addition to a sleek, modern look. So in many ways it really is the successor of the Waffle Trainer. But it also helps that the LeBron 15 happens to look great when done up in the OG sneaker’s colors. On the LeBron 15, the Battleknit upper goes blue with a yellow collar accent. The biggest change to the upper is that the Swoosh is moved from the heel to the side of the shoe, where it is on most Nike kicks. And to give the new LeBrons a slightly more vintage feel, the normally clear Nike Air midsole is painted over in white, Men’s Nike LeBron 15 Waffle Trainer Blue/Yellow Basketball Shoes and the original Nike tag is printed on the LeBron 15’s front pull tab.
And if the Waffle Trainer-inspired LeBrons aren’t for you, know there are a lot more 15s coming down the pipeline in classic Nike colorways. Nike’s only teased those styles for now, but expect shoes inspired by legendary Nikes such as the Griffey Max 1, Nike ACG Mowabb, and many, many more. It’s always good to be the king—and now it’s great to be everyone else, too.
